How to Watch: Tennessee vs. LSU in the College World Series

Tennessee will get a rematch with LSU in a second straight College Baseball World Series game, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. Eastern Time. The game will be televised by ESPN from Charles Schwab Field in Omaha.

The Vols (44-21) stayed alive on Monday afternoon by rallying from down 4-0 to beat No. 8 Stanford 6-4. LSU, the No. 5 seed, lost 3-2 to No. 1-seed Wake Forest Monday night, after the Demon Deacons rallied from down 2-0.

LSU sent Tennessee to the elimination bracket with a 6-3 win over the Vols on Saturday night. LSU led Wake 2-0 after the third inning Monday night, but Wake scored two runs in the sixth and another in the eighth.

LSU ace Paul Skenes worked 7.2 innings against Tennessee on Saturday, striking out 12 while giving up two earned runs. The Vols got down 5-0 after six innings, then scored three runs in the eighth before the comeback attempt came up short.

Monday’s Game: Tennessee 6, Stanford 4

Tennessee trailed No. 8 Stanford 4-0 after three innings in Monday afternoon’s elimination game, but Chase Burns took over out of the bullpen in the fourth and the Vols scored four runs in the fifth to tie it and two more in the seventh on the way to a 6-4 win.

Burns worked six dominant innings, giving up just two hits while striking out nine and walking none to help Tennessee win a College World Series game for the first time since 2001.

Hunter Ensley‘s sacrifice fly started the scoring in the fourth, with ZaneDenton sliding in just ahead of the tag at home plate. Jared Dickey then singled to score Cal Stark and Christian Moore tied the game with a two-run single to center, scoring Dickey and Maui Ahuna.

Tennessee baseball’s history at the College World Series 

Tennessee lost back-to-back games against Virginia and Texas in 2021 and was 0-2 in Omaha in 2005 as well, losing to Florida 6-4 and then falling to Arizona State 4-2 two days later. 

The Vols lost their CWS opener in 2001 in Omaha, falling 21-13 to Miami, but bounced back with a 19-12 win over Georgia and a 10-2 win over USC before being eliminated in a 12-6 loss in a rematch with Miami.

Tennessee beat Clemson 5-3 in its first game in Omaha in 1995, but lost 11-1 to Cal State Fulton two days later. After that it was a 6-2 win over Stanford, but Fullerton delivered the season-ending loss 11-0 when the two teams met again.

The Vols finished runner up in Omaha in 1951, losing 7-1 to Utah in their opening game at the College World Series, then rattling off four straight wins, beating Princeton, Springfield, USC and Utah, before losing to Oklahoma 3-2.
