Tennessee baseball will don its black alternative uniforms Friday night in game one of a three-game series with Morehead State at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The combination consists of a black hat and black top with white pants. The Vols were 4-1 with this combination in 2022 and 1-1 inside conference play. The one loss was actually the first time the squad wore them – at Kentucky for game two of the series. Tennessee also wore this combination during the SEC Tournament Championship victory over Florida in May.

Prior to last season, the last time Tennessee wore black uniforms was in 2011.

First pitch between the Vols and Eagles comes at 6:30 pm ET. Chase Dollander will square off with Luke Helton to get things going.

About the Morehead State Eagles

Morehead State is poised to be one of the better teams in the OVC this season. Preseason picked second, only behind Southeast Missouri, the Eagles saw first baseman Jackson Feltner and starter John Bakke projected as Player & Pitcher of the Year for the conference. Second baseman Nick Gooden was also named to the preseason all-conference team as well.

The Eagles have placed third in the last three conference tournaments and are one of just two conference teams with multiple OVC titles since 2015. Morehead State played for a Regional in both 2015 and 2018. The 8-0 start to the 2023 campaign matched the best start in program history.

Feltner is off to a good start at the plate, hitting .381 and showed out versus the Eagles’ two Power Five opponents this season with a .6667 average. The first baseman leads the squad with 16 RBI and is second with four homers.

Short stop Colton Becker is 7-for-7 in stolen base attempts and is third on the team with a .333 average. He’s walked more (9) than struck out (8) during the first 15 games of the year. Gooden, a projected All-Conference player, is off to a cold start at the dish as he’s tallying just a .160 average with four hits in 25 at-bats.

Starting catcher Ryan Grabosch has thrown out all five base runners who have attempted to steal on him this season. He’s also been modest at the plate with two homers, six runs driven in and a .250 average in 11 starts. Jarrett Miller could be a guy utilized in the backend of the Eagles’ bullpen as he’s posted three saves in five appearances on the year. Mik Aoki is in his fourth season as head coach of the Morehead State Eagles. He’s collected more than 450 wins during his career and saw 50 of his former players drafted into Major League Baseball organizations.
