How it Happened: Tennessee gets good pitching, makes quick work of Dayton 4-1

Tennessee kept it low-scoring but handled business on Saturday, taking down Dayton by a final score of 4-1 on a chilly Saturday evening.

Chase Burns was the story of the night, racking up a career-high 12 strikeouts as he worked into the seventh inning. Seth Halvorsen recorded his first-career save and Christian Moore drove in a team-high two runs. Tennessee will look for the series-sweep tomorrow (Sunday) at 2 pm.

Scoring Summary

Bottom 1st: Christian Moore walked with one away and advanced to second on a balk. With two outs, Zane Denton walked and then Griffin Merritt doubled Moore in down the left field line.

Bottom 2nd: Dylan Drieling walked to leadoff the frame. Austen Jaslove doubled in Drieling with a rope to the alleyway in left-center field. Charlie Taylor walked. Jared Dickey reached first base on a fielder’s choice. Taylor out at second base and Jaslove moved to third. Christian Moore brings in Jaslove on a sacrifice fly. Blake Burke struck out swinging to end the inning.

Top 3rd: Omar Daniels walked with one out and then reached third base on a steal of second and wild pitch shortly thereafter. Jose Martinez walked and was called out after stealing second and sliding through it off the bag. Daniels scored.

Bottom 4th: Jared Dickey ripped a two-out single the other way into left field and then advanced to second when the ball got away from the outfielder. Christian Moore followed with a single down the right field line, bringing in Dickey for another Tennessee run.
