Tennessee's Dylan Dreiling named Most Outstanding Player of Knoxville Regional

Tennessee Baseball sophomore outfielder Dylan Dreiling was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Knoxville Regional Sunday night, after the top-ranked Vols beat Southern Miss 12-3 to advance to this week’s Super Regional at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Dreiling made the All-Tournament Team for the Vols alongside catcher Cal Stark, second baseman Christian Moore, third baseman Billy Amick, center fielder Hunter Ensley and pitcher AJ Causey.

The rest of the All-Tournament Team was made up by Indiana first baseman Brock Tibbitts, Southern Miss shortstop Ozzie Pratt, Southern Miss right fielder Slade Wilks, Indiana designated hitter Devin Taylor and Southern Miss pitcher Niko Mazza, a unanimous pick.

Tennessee advance to face East Carolina or Evansville in Super Regional

Tennessee (53-11), the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Baseball Tournament and the Knoxville Regional host, swept through the weekend with a 9-3 win over Northern Kentucky Friday night, a 12-6 win over Indiana on Saturday and a 12-3 win over Southern Miss on Sunday.

The Vols will host the winner of the East Carolina Regional in the Super Regional Round. ECU, the No. 16 national seed, plays Evansville on Monday after beating the Aces 19-6 Sunday night. Evansville beat ECU 4-1 on Friday.

Dreiling over the three-game weekend went 7-for-13 at the plate, hitting .538 with six runs scored, a pair of home runs and four RBI. He also drew two walks and scored five runs. He had a two-run home run Friday against Northern Kentucky and a solo home run Sunday against Southern Miss.

Dylan Dreiling this season: .330, 19 HR, 63 RBI, 62 runs scored

For the season Dreiling is batting .330 with 19 home runs, 18 doubles, 63 RBI and 62 runs scored on 70 hits. He has drawn 45 walks against 54 strikeouts in 62 games. 

Amick had a three-run home run against Northern Kentucky and a grand slam against Indiana on Saturday. Moore hit a two-run home run and drew a bases-loaded walk against Indiana. Stark added two home runs against Southern Miss on Sunday.

Tennessee has now advanced to the Super Regional round four straight times and has won a program-record 12 straight regional games. The Vols advanced out of the Clemson Regional a year ago, then beat Southern Miss in Hattiesburg to advance to the College World Series for the second time under head coach Tony Vitello.

Tennessee hosted and won regionals in Knoxville in both 2021 and 2022. The Vols swept LSU in the Super Regionals in 2021 but lost at home to Notre Dame in 2022.
