Local standout hauls in NCBWA Freshman All-American honors
Tennessee first-year pitcher Dylan Loy – who attended Pigeon Force High School – was named a Freshman All-American for his efforts in 2024 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Loy was named to the Second-Team after posting a 2.25 ERA with a 2-0 record over 19 appearances and five games started. The southpaw logged 28 innings on the bump while issuing 19 hits, seven runs, 33 strikeouts and 10 walks. Opponents are hitting .192 against the left-handed hurler.
The true freshman has stepped up at times for Tennessee this season. His carer outing to date was a 4.2 inning relief appearance in the SEC Tournament championship win over LSU on May 26. Loy allowed just two hits but no runs with five strikeouts and two walks in the title game win.
He’s also made two appearances in 2024 postseason play for the Vols – who will begin their journey in the College World Series on Friday against Florida State. Against No. 3 seed Indiana in regional play and Evansville in super regionals, Loy combined to pitch one-third of an inning while allowing two hits.
Loy becomes the seventh Volunteer to reel in Freshman All-American honors under current head coach Tony Vitello and falls in line with Tennessee newcomers picking up the honor in the past four seasons. Last season, AJ Russell was named a Freshman All-American by the same publication.

Tennessee returns to Omaha for the College World Series for the third time in four seasons and seventh time in program history.
UT’s side of the bracket (Bracket 1) includes Friday challenger Florida State, along with Virginia and North Carolina. The other side of the bracket (Bracket 2) consists of Kentucky, Florida, Texas A&M and North Carolina State.
Each side will compete in a regional set-up, featuring double-elimination, before advancing on to the College World Series Finals. The best of a three-game setup Finals round will begin on Saturday, June 22 and run through Monday, June 24 if necessary.
