How it Happened: Bats explode as Vols crush Eastern Kentucky 17-2 in seven innings
Tennessee cruises into Southeastern Conference play this weekend at Alabama with a 17-2, run-rule victory over Eastern Kentucky Tuesday night from Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
The Vols (17-1) have now tied for the second-longest win-streak in program history. Tennessee also won 16-straight ballgames back in 1994 from February 26 to March 26. The Vols also conclude their extended 15-game homestand undefeated.
Eastern Kentucky (2-15) managed only two runs off Marcus Phillips in the fifth inning, finishing with five hits in the contest. The Vols pounded out the 17 runs off 15 hits – scoring five runs in the third, six in the fourth and four in the sixth.
Chris Stamos (3-0) earns the win after collecting the final two outs of the fourth inning. Bradley Stewert (0-1) is the losing pitcher on the night after allowing one run off one hit over one-plus innings of work.
