Tennessee junior right-handed pitcher Hollis Fanning entered the transfer portal on Monday, sources confirmed to Volquest. The Tullahoma, Tenn. native spent three years in the program.

As a junior, Fanning appeared in 15 games, starting one midweek contest. He did earn a decision on the year, but sported a 1.26 ERA across 14.1 inning pitched with 24 strikeouts to only three walks. The righty allowed two runs on 12 hits while opponents were tallying a .231 batting average against him on the season.

The veteran was at his best in the final midweek game of the regular season against Belmont where he logged a career-high three innings while striking out seven-consecutive batters in the process.

Fanning made Tennessee’s 2023 postseason roster and gave up one hit over two-thirds of a scoreless inning against Charlotte at the Clemson Regional. He later made an appearance for the Vols against LSU in their opener at the 2023 College World Series in Omaha, allowing one run on one hit during another two-thirds of an inning of work.

The in-state native appeared in four games as a freshman in 2021 where he allowed two runs over five hits in 2.2 innings of work. A year later in 2022, Fanning tossed 3.1 innings of one earned baseball in five trips to the mound. The rising senior is currently pitching for the Kingsport Axmen of the Appalachian League for the summer.

Fanning becomes the sixth Tennessee player to enter the transfer portal, joining fellow pitchers Jake Fitzgibbons, Jacob Bimbi, Shawn Scott, Turner Swistak and outfielder Alex Stanwhich. The Vols added former Jacksonville State hurler AJ Causey from the portal on Friday.

The transfer portal window opened on May 30 and remains open for 45 days until July 13.
