How it Happened: Tennessee unphased despite horrendous weather in 24-1 beatdown of Illinois
The weather was a factor Saturday afternoon with constant downpours resulting in one 48-minute delay, but Tennessee didn’t seem to mind as the Vols destroyed Illinois 24-1 to clinch the series-victory.
The win marks the 14th-straight for Tennessee who has now won all 13 games played at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
The Vols (15-1) erupted offensively for six runs in the second inning and four apiece in innings five, six and seven. Tennessee finished the ballgame plating the 24 runs off 20 hits while Illinois (5-8) managed just the one run off five hits.
Drew Beam (3-0) earned the victory – the 20th of his career – after allowing only one run over five innings of work. Logan Tabeling (0-2) I the losing pitcher in the game after giving up seven runs on four hits in just 1.2 innings of work.
Tennessee and Illinois will conclude the three-game series Sunday afternoon at 1 o’clock eastern time. But first, here’s how it all went down for the Vols on Saturday.
