How it Happened: Christian Moore powers Vols to 13-11 win over Kentucky, clinching series win
LEXINGTON, KY — Tennessee second baseman Christian Moore had a game for the ages on Sunday at Proud Park, homering three times to fuel the Vols 13-11 win over Kentucky in the decisive rubber match of the Southeastern Conference series.
The No. 4 Vols (33-7, 12-6 SEC) belted four home runs in the ballgame – the go ahead two-run bomb from Kavares Tears in the seventh inning. The No. 3 Wildcats (32-7, 15-3) have now lost their first SEC series of the season and is the first back-to-back losing efforts in the conference slate.
During the win, Moore passed teammate Blake Burke for the career record of program home runs. He now sits at 46 in his career.
Kirby Connell (4-0) earned the win for the Vols after tossing the final 4.2 innings on the mound. Travis Smith (3-3) is the losing pitcher on the day after allowing five runs off four hits in just one inning of relief work.
The Vols have now won five-straight SEC series. Here’s how it all happened for Tennessee in a crazy, wacky and wild game three against Kentucky from Proud Park.
