How it Happened: Lipscomb doesn’t back down, downs Tennessee 9-6 in midweek challenge
Lipscomb pulled off the upset Tuesday night at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, defeating the third-ranked team in the country by a final score of 9-6.
Tennessee (37-8) scored two runs in each of the first two frames but managed only one the rest of the way. Lipscomb (16-27) plated two runs in each of the fourth, sixth and eighth innings to cruise passed the Vols for the win. The Bisons also belted four home runs in the ballgame while Tennessee failed to homer for the third-straight game.
Ryan Kutz (1-2) earned the in on the mound after tossing five innings of four-run baseball, while giving up six hits. Andrew Behnke (2-1) took home the loss after allowing two runs off two hits in 1.1 innings of work.
Tennessee will look to get back on track this weekend at Florida as Southeastern Conference play resumes, but first, here’s how it all went down in a midweek loss.
