How it Happened: Vols sweep LSU with exciting 8-4 finale on Sunday
Tennessee homered plenty on a Sunday afternoon to sweep LSU, winning 8-4 in the finale behind historic home runs from Blake Burke and Christian Moore. The second baseman’s two-homer day now ties the first baseman with the Tennessee record of 42 career homers.
The Vols (30-6, 10-5 SEC) have won four-straight league series while Sunday marked the first sweep in conference play for the Vols. Tennessee has also now won eight-straight over LSU at home, dating back to the 2021 regular season. The Tigers (22-15, 3-12) have now lost five-straight series to begin league play.
Andrew Behnke (1-0) earned the win on the mound (the first of his career) after facing one batter and picking up one out in the sixth inning to preserve the tie before the Vols got the lead right back in the bottom of the frame. Starter Zander Sechrist was stellar, allowing only two runs in 5.1 innings pitched. Aiden Moffett (0-1) is the losing pitcher after allowing the go-ahead solo home run to Christian Moore in the sixth. Aaron Combs tallied his first save of the season – and his career – by collecting the final six outs.
Tennessee will be back at home for midweek action on Tuesday against Bellarmine before hitting the road at Kentucky next weekend, but first, here’s how it all went down for the Vols against LSU in game three.
