Tennessee came up short to Missouri on Friday, falling 9-1 in the Southeastern Conference opener on the road. The Tigers utilized a four-run first inning to take control right out of the gate and the Vols never recovered.

Chase Dollander (3-2) was tagged four six runs on nine hits in the loss, lasting 5.2 innings on 77 pitches. Chandler Murphy (3-1) is credited with the win, allowing only one run off three hits in six innings of work. Dalton Bargo and Dylan Leach each drove in a pair of runs for the home team while the Vols were held to just three hits on the day.

Game 2 of the series is scheduled for Saturday at 3 pm ET. There’s a possibility that Sunday could serve as a doubleheader day with two seven-inning contests, due to the cold forecast for tomorrow. We will keep you updated here on Volquest.
