Where Tennessee players are ranked in MLB's top 200 prospects

Tennessee Baseball’s season came to an end in the 11-4 loss at Arkansas on Sunday, swept by the Razorbacks in two games in the Fayetteville Super Regional at Baum-Walker Stadium. 

For some Vols, the attention now turns to the MLB Draft, with MLB.com having eight Tennessee players ranked in the top 200 of the prospect rankings.

The MLB Draft will be held July 13-14 in Atlanta, Georgia, during MLB’s All-Star break. The Vols had eight players selected in last summer’s draft, tied for second most in a single draft in program history and headlined by Christian Moore at No. 8 overall to the Los Angeles Angels. 

No. 9 Liam Doyle

Liam Doyle was one of the most best pitchers in college baseball this season, after transferring from Ole Miss alongside teammate Andrew Fischer. The Tennessee ace finished with a 10-4 record in 17 starts and 19 appearances. He had a 3.20 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and struck out 164 against just 32 walks over 95.2 innings pitched. 

No. 17 Gavin Kilen

Gavin Kilen hit a team-high .357 and had a 1.112 OPS with a .671 slugging percentage after transferring to Tennessee. He hit 15 home runs, had 46 RBI and 60 runs scored on his 75 hits, which included 13 doubles and four triples. He started 52 times in 53 games. 

No. 29 Andrew Fischer

Andrew Fischer hit a team-high 25 home runs after transferring from Ole Miss. He hit .341 while also leading Tennessee in RBI (65), runs scored (70), total bases (165), walks (63), slugging percentage (.760), on-base percentage (.497) and OPS (1.257). 

No. 58 Dean Curley

Dean Curley hit .315 with a .966 OPS while starting all 65 games in his sophomore season at Tennessee. He had a .531 slugging percentage with 62 RBI and 76 runs scored. He hit 14 home runs, had one triple and eight doubles among his 76 hits.

No. 65 Marcus Phillips

Marcus Phillips was Tennessee’s Saturday starter with a 3.90 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP over 83.0 innings pitched. He had a 4-5 record in 17 starts and had 98 strikeouts against 34 walks. 

No. 69 AJ Russell

AJ Russell made six starts and appeared in 12 games, pitching 25.1 innings while working his way back from last season’s Tommy John surgery. He had a 3.55 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with 36 strikeouts against 11 walks.

No. 119 Tanner Franklin

Tanner Franklin, the Kennesaw State transfer and Jefferson County native, made 27 appearances this season, including one start. He pitched 38.2 innings with a 4.89 ERA and 1.27 WHIP. He had a 1-2 record with 52 strikeouts against nine walks.

No. 143 Nate Snead 

Nate Snead, who transferred Tennessee from Wichita State, had a 4.53 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 23 appearances, pitching 49.2 innings. He had a 4-2 record and had 42 strikeouts against 21 walks.
