Tennessee Baseball will start the new season with the fourth-lowest odds to repeat as national champions, according to odds released by Circa Sports. The Vols are fourth at +1100, behind Texas A&M at +600, Virginia at +950 and LSU +1000.

The Vols beat Texas A&M in the three games in the national championship series at the College World Series in Omaha last June, winning the program’s first title with a 6-5 win in Game 3.

The Aggies won 9-5 in Game 1, before Tennessee answered with a 4-1 win in Game 2 to forced the decisive third game.

Vols finished 60-13 as national champions last season

Tennessee finished 60-13 last season, going through Florida State and North Carolina to start the stay in Omaha, which started with a dramatic 12-11 win over FSU in the College World Series opener, rallying from down 11-8 in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Vols beat Northern Kentucky, Indiana and Southern Miss in the NCAA Knoxville Regional then beat Evansville in the Knoxville Super Regional.

Tennessee won the SEC Tournament, coming back from a 13-4 loss to Vanderbilt in the first game in Hoover to beat Texas A&M, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt, before beating LSU 4-3 in the championship game.

The next highest SEC team in this season’s national championship odds was Arkansas, one spot behind Tennessee at +1200. Florida is +1900 and Georgia is +3000. Vanderbilt Is +6000 and South Carolina is +6500. Auburn is +7000, along with Oklahoma, and Alabama is +7500.

The Vols open the new season with a three-game home series against Hofstra beginning February 14 at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. They also host UNC Asheville, Samford and North Alabama before going to Houston for the Astros Foundation College Classic, where they’ll face Oklahoma State, Rice and Arizona.

SEC play starts March 14 at home against Florida and also includes home series against Texas A&M, Kentucky, Auburn and Vanderbilt. Tennessee goes on the road in league play to face Alabama, South Carolina, Ole Miss, LSU and Arkansas.

Tony Vitello said on Wednesday that he wants this season’s team to continue to make Tennessee fans proud “pop that product on the field.”

“And I want to cheer for them,” Vitello said of his team. “I got their back, regardless of wins or losses, because we learned — you can pick out the year — no one is invincible, especially in this league. So you win, you lose, it’s part of the deal that we signed up for, literally when you sign the contract.

“But (I) just want to make sure I’m doing my part, and therefore the program is doing our part, to make Vol fans proud and get to see what they deserve to see.”
