Tennessee Baseball slides in national polls following series-loss at Alabama
Tennessee baseball fell back a few spots in all five of the national polls this week following a 2-2 week with a series-loss at Alabama in Southeastern Conference opening weekend of play.
The Vols (18-3, 1-2 SEC) will be back in action on Tuesday by hosting Xavier in nonconference play before jumping back into the SEC schedule with Ole Miss at Lindsey Nelson Stadium this weekend. Tennessee ran away from Alabama on Friday night 11-3 but dropped game two 6-3 and game three 7-6 to conclude the weekend.
D1 Baseball, the publication rankings that Volquest follows, dropped Tennessee three spots from No. 5 to No. 8. The Volunteers come in just ahead of Duke (No. 9) and East Carolina (No. 10) and behind Florida (No. 6) and Texas A&M (No. 7). The top-five this week per the publication is Arkansas (No. 1), Oregon state (No. 2), Vanderbilt (No. 3), Clemson (No. 4) and LSU (No. 5).
The Vols only fell one spot from No. 6 to No. 7 this week in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Tennessee falls out of the top-10 in both the Baseball America poll (No. 11, down five spots) and Perfect Game poll (No. 12, down five spots).
