Tennessee baseball moves up in national polls following perfect week
The Tennessee baseball team is ranked inside the top-10 in every major poll this week following a perfect 5-0 record at Lindsey Nelson Stadium since returning from the season-opening weekend play at the Shriners Children’s College Showdown in Arlington, TX.
The Vols (7-1) handled UNC Asheville and ETSU in a pair of midweeks, 3-2 and 16-0 (7 inn), respectively, before sweeping Albany on the first home weekend series of the year by a combined score of 41-11.
Volquest follows the D1 Baseball poll and uses this ranking system in published articles and conversation. Tennessee moved up one spot to No. 8 by this publication, right in front of Vanderbilt (No. 9) and Clemson (No.10). UT is still considered the fourth-best team in the Southeastern Conference according to D1 Baseball as Arkansas, LSU and Florida are tabbed in slots two through four and Texas A&M checks in at No. 7 in front of the Volunteers.
Tennessee also moved up one spot to No. 7 in the Baseball America poll and one spot in the Perfect Game rankings to No. 10. UT remained at No. 7 in this week’s rankings from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. The USA Today Coaches Poll will resume weekly rankings in a few weeks, but the Vols were a preseason No. 8-ranked team in the country.
