Tennessee Baseball has lost three straight SEC series and four of the last five, but the Vols are still hanging onto to a host spot in NCAA Tournament projections. On3’s Jonathan Wagner this week has the Vols as the No. 14 overall seed, hosing a Knoxville Regional that also includes No. 2 TCU, No. 3 Michigan and No. 4 Columbia.

“All of a sudden,” Wagner wrote, “Tennessee is in serious danger of falling out of the hosting picture, though they hold on in this week’s Field of 64. The Vols have lost three straight series and four of their last five weekends, now at 37-11 overall, 14-10 in the SEC and No. 14 in RPI.

Tennessee over consecutive weekends have dropped series at home against Auburn, at LSU and at home against Kentucky.

Up Next: Tennessee vs. Indiana State, Tuesday, 6 p.m. ET

The Vols started SEC play with a home sweep of Florida, won two of three at Alabama and swept South Carolina on the road. They then lost two of three at home against Texas A&M, starting the current run of four series losses over their last five, with a series win at Ole Miss mixed in.

“If (the losing) trend continues in the final two weeks against Vanderbilt and at Arkansas,” Wagner wrote, “Tennessee could very well end up on the 2-line. TCU is still in contention to host as well, and could benefit by a team like Tennessee dropping.”

Tennessee hosts Indiana State Tuesday night (6 p.m. Eastern Time, SEC Network+) before Vanderbilt comes to Lindsey Nelson Stadium this weekend. After a midweek game against Belmont next week, the Vols go to Arkansas for the final weekend of the regular season.

The postseason starts with the SEC Tournament on May 20 at Hoover Met Stadium in Hoover, Ala.
