A closer look at Tennessee Baseball’s growing list of 2025 & 2026 commitments
Tony Vitello is off and running on the recruiting trail, fresh from Tennessee’s first national championship in program history.
Following an impressive haul in the transfer portal this summer, which earned commitments from talented players such as 3B Andrew Fischer and LHP Liam Doyle, Vitello’s staff has been hard at work this fall finishing off the recruiting class of 2025 and building one of the better classes for 2026.
This week alone, the Tennessee baseball program has earned commitments from SS Cole Koeninger (’26), RHP Tyler Putnam (’26) and RHP Cade Allen (’26). Last week, Vitello picked up commitments from RHP Kai Bratton (’26), SS Billy Carlson (’25) and Oak ridge standout RHP Michael Teasley (’26). It’s been lightning quick and the Vols have certainly benefited from two home football games – two incredible atmospheres – inside Neyland Stadium.
This weekend will be no different as Tennessee is set to play host to six official visitors, headlined by left-handed pitcher Cameron Appenzeller, who ranks as the No. 21 overall player in the 2025 class according to Perfect Game. Standing in at 6-foot-5, 180 pounds, the second-ranked player out of the state of Illinois is considered the No. 2 lefthanded pitcher in the cycle. Appenzeller is a former South Carolina commitment and is now thought to be choosing between Tennessee and Mississippi State.
Another massive target left on the 2025 board that Tennessee is right in the middle of is left-handed pitcher Kruz Schoolcraft. The southpaw, who reclassified from 2026 to 2025 class, is expected to be a high first round pick next summer and headlines the visitor list for the weekend. He can hit upper 90s on the mound and has power at the dish. Schoolcraft can go anywhere in the country if he elects the college route as Perfect Game currently ranks him as the No. 7 player in the class – one slot behind current Vol commit Billy Carlson.
