How it Happened: Tennessee ends regular season with 4-1 win over South Carolina
Tennessee finished the right way Saturday afternoon with a game three, Southeastern Conference regular season finale win over South Carolina, 4-1 the final score.
The top-ranked Vols (46-10, 22-8) plated a run in the fifth inning and then three more in the sixth. The No. 24 Gamecocks (33-21, 13-17 SEC) picked up a run in the seventh frame, but that was all in the contest as the pitching from UT was on fire in this one.
Zander Sechrist (2-1) earned the victory after tossing six scoreless frames in the start while Matthew Becker (5-3) took home the loss after allowing two runs off three hits in two innings of relief work.
The victory secured the third sweep of the season for the Vols in conference play and the sixth sweep overall of the season. Depending on the final between Kentucky and Vanderbilt on Saturday, the Volunteers could finish as co-champions in SEC play for the regular season.
Up next is the SEC Tournament next week in Hoover, Ala., but first, here’s how it all went down on a Saturday afternoon for the Big Orange.
