How it Happened: Tennessee shows up late, holds off Southern Indiana 2-1
Tennessee was a no-show offensively through the first five innings of the ballgame but rallied late to take care of Southern Indiana 2-1 on Wednesday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
With the win, the Vols (13-1) up their win-streak to 12-straight. The Screaming Eagles (4-7) broke a scoreless ballgame in the top of the sixth on a solo home run from Tucker Ebest. Christian Moore tied things up with a solo home run in the bottom half of the frame before a sacrifice fly from Dalton Bargo handed Tennessee the lead.
Zander Sechrist (1-0) was fantastic in the start for Tennessee, tossing career-high with 5.2 innings pitched and 10 strikeouts, but it was Derek Schaefer (1-0) who earned the win after picking up the final out of the sixth inning, relieving Sechrist. Gavin Morris (0-1) is the losing pitcher on the night after allowing two runs off four hits in 1.2 innings of work for the Screaming Eagles.
Kirby Connell (S, 1) picked up the three-inning save.
Tennessee returns to Lindsey Nelson Stadium this weekend for its final nonconference series of the season as Illinois comes to town for a three-game set. But first, here how it all went down for the Vols on a Wednesday night against Southern Indiana.
