How it Happened: Vols punch ticket to super regionals with 12-3 win over Southern Miss

Tennessee is headed to its fourth-straight super regionals as the Vols handed Southern Miss 12-3 in the Knoxville Regional championship game Sunday night from Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The win was the 12-straight in regional play for the program.

The No. 1 seed Vols (53-11) will advance on to the Knoxville Super Regional next weekend (announcement on specific dates coming on Monday) to take on either Eastern Carolina or Evansville of the Greenville Regional. The No. 2 Golden Eagles of Southern Miss (43-20) sees its season end to the Orange and White for the second-straight campaign.

Tennessee belted five home runs to break the single season record for 159 round trippers in a season. Zander Sechrist was solid in his start, but it was Nate Snead (9-2) who earned the victory after tossing 4.1 innings of relief. Chandler Best (3-1) is charged with the loss after four runs off three hits (two home runs) in 1.2 innings of relief work.  

Tony Vitello’ program is moving on to super regionals for the sixth time in program history, but first, here’s how it all went down against Southern Miss on a Sunday night.
