HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Tennessee and Southern Miss game one of the Hattiesburg Super Regional was suspended Saturday evening after two weather delays due to lightning in the area and the forecast of thunderstorms all evening and night.

With one out in the bottom of the fifth and a runner on base for Tennessee’s Christian Scott, the game was delayed for a second time with Southern Miss leading 4-0. The contest will be resumed Sunday at noon eastern time on ESPNU. Game two will start at 3 pm ET or at least 55 minutes after the end of game on ESPN.

The Vols and Golden Eagles got underway at 3 o’clock eastern time with sunny skies and temperatures in the low 90s. Wind was beginning to pick up and skies would darken on occasion, but no rain was ever present at the time. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, the game was put into a delay due to lightning being spotted in the area.

Following a 1 hour and 35-minute delay, the game returned for 13 minutes of play before being put into a second weather delay in the bottom of the fifth inning with a Tennessee runner at first and one away.

Southern Miss was off to a great start in game one, plating four runs off six hits to take the commanding 4-0 lead in the early portion. Tennessee had just logged its first hit of the ballgame and was threatening with runners on first and second base when the game was first put into the delay.

Tennessee second baseman Christian Moore was at the plate and the count was at two balls and two strikes. When play returned, Moore struck out to end the threat. Camden Sewell came on for Tennessee to toss the top of the fifth inning and allowed a one-out double but struck out the side for the quick work.

Zane Denton singled to centerfield with one out in the bottom of the fifth and then the game was delayed for the second time – eventually resulting in the suspension.

Andrew Lindsey was not himself in this one, allowing the four runs off six hits – giving up two home runs in the process. The righty struck out four and walked one over 78 pitches (52 strikes).

Tate Parker drove in two runs on a triple to centerfield in the first while Dustin Dickerson and Nick Monistere registered solo home runs in the third and fourth innings, respectively. Billy Oldham was rolling, allowing just one hit over 3.2 innings pitched with four strikeouts and no walks for Southern Miss.

The completion of game one will be of great importance as 79 percent of teams who win the supers opener go on to reach the College world series. Chase Dollander and Tanner Hall were the projected game two starters for both programs while TBA was listed for Monday’s game three – if necessary.
