It’s win or go home for Tennessee baseball Monday afternoon at the College World Series in Omaha. The Vols face Stanford at 2 p.m. Eastern Time on ESPN in an elimination game at Charles Schwab Field.

Tennessee (43-21) fell 6-3 to No. 5 seed LSU Saturday night. Stanford (44-19) led Wake Forest, the No. 1 overall seed, 2-1 in the seventh inning Saturday afternoon but lost 3-2 after the Demon Deacons scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Tennessee (43-21) got down 5-0 against LSU and ace Paul Skenes and saw its comeback attempt come up short after scoring three runs in the top of the eighth.

The Vols are looking to avoid going 0-for-2 in Omaha for the second time in three years. In 2021, Tennessee los to Virginia and Texas in back-to-back games to see its season come to an end.

A Closer Look at Stanford

Stanford hosted both Regional and Super Regional play on its way to Omaha. The Cardinal beat San Jose State on June 2 to open the NCAA Tournament, but lost 8-5 to Texas A&M a day later. From there, Stanford beat Cal State Fullerton and then beat A&M on June 4 and June 5 to advance.

Stanford’s back was against the wall again to start the Super Regional, after Texas won 7-5 at Stanford. The Cardinal then beat Texas 8-3 and 7-6 to punch its ticket to the College World Series for the third time in three years.

Losses to Arkansas and Auburn eliminated Stanford in Omaha a year ago. In 2021, Stanford lost to North Carolina State to open the College World Series, beat Arizona in its next game then were bounced after 6-5 loss to Vanderbilt.
