After spending Monday in Knoxville on an official visit, pitcher Liam Doyle has announced his intentions of committing to Tony Vitello and the Volunteer baseball program.

The former Ole Miss left-handed pitcher officially entered the transfer portal on July 2 after one season in Oxford. As a freshman in 2023, the southpaw pitched for Coastal Carolina. He’ll have two years of eligibility remaining and will be draft eligible next summer in 2025.

Tennessee showed interest in Doyle the first time around during the transfer portal cycle last summer, but he elected Ole Miss for this past spring. In doing so, Doyle tossed 55 innings over 16 appearances with 11 starts, contributing a 3-4 record with an ERA of 5.73. The lefty struck out 84 batters, walked 21 and opponents hit .230 against him.

As a freshman in 2023 at Coastal, Doyle registered a 3-1 record with a 4.15 ERA over 56.1 innings pitched. He appeared in 23 games and made seven starts with 69 strikeouts. Doyle the former No. 1 ranked left-handed hurler out of New Hampshire by Perfect Game in the recruiting circles and was tabbed as the 40th-best left-handed pitcher nationally as a prep star.

The pitcher tossed a gem at Tennessee on March 23 this past season, throwing six-innings strong of three earned-run baseball with 10 strikeouts to only one walk. He allowed only three this in the victory and the 10 strikeouts tied for a season-high as he accomplished the feat just a week prior as well in a win over South Carolina at home.

Doyle has experience in this league as both a starter and reliver and will be a welcomed addition as a left-handed pitcher as Tennessee was forced to say goodbye to 2024 southpaws Chris Stamos, Zander Sechrist, Kirby Connell and Matthew Dallas (portal).

The transfer portal opened June 3 and remained open through July 2. Eight players entered the transfer portal from Tennessee, a list that includes Camden Bates, Matthew Dallas, Wyatt Evans, Daniel Parris, Derek Schaefer, Robin Villeneuve, Bradke Lohry and 2023 third baseman Zane Denton.

Tennessee picked up a commitment from Junior College pitcher Thomas Crabtree before heading off to Omaha for the College World Series. Right-handed pitcher Tanner Franklin become the first commitment out of the transfer portal from the 2024 cycle last Tuesday for Tennessee. Infielder Gavin Kilen joined the class on Independence Day and first baseman Eric Rataczak committed to Tennessee on Monday.

The Vols now boast five commits, currently, from the transfer portal with the addition of Doyle. His Ole Miss teammate – Andrew Fischer – committed to Tennessee earlier on Tuesday.
