How it Happened: Tennessee slugs back for 8-4 win over Vanderbilt in opener
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee capitalized off a pair of two-run homers in the eighth inning to come from behind and down Vanderbilt Friday night with the 8-4 final tally in game one of the Southeastern Conference series opener.
The No. 1 Vols (41-9, 18-7 SEC) tallied the eight runs off 10 hits in the ballgame, blasting three home runs in the process. Vanderbilt (33-17, 11-14 SEC) held a brief lead midway through the ballgame, but managed only four runs off six hits on the night.
AJ Causey (9-3) earned the victory on the mound after tossing the final 6.1 innings of the ballgame. Miller Green (1-4) is the losing pitcher on the night after allowing three runs off three hits in only one-third of an inning of work out of the bullpen.
Tennessee has now won eight-straight over Vanderbilt for the first time since 1993-1995. The two teams will square off for game two of the seirs Saturday afternoon at 3 pm eastern time, but first, here’s how it all went down on a Friday night.
