How it Happened: Tennessee rallies bigtime in 12-4 midweek rout of Western Carolina
Tennessee fell behind by a run in the fourth inning but powered back with a six-run fifth inning to down Western Carolina 12-4 in Tuesday midweek action from Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
The No. 3 Vols (34-7) plated a run in the second, two in the second and sixth in the fifth to pull away from the Catamounts (21-17) who tallied the four runs in the fourth. Starter Dylan Loy tossed a perfect three innings before running into trouble in the fourth, but Tennessee’s bullpen (comprised of five guys) had his back.
Andrew Behnke (2-0) earned the victory in relief with 2+ innings of one run (unearned) baseball with three strikeouts to no walks. Spenser Hamblen (2-4) is charged with the loss after allowing seven runs off six hits in 4+ innings of work. Billy Amick homered twice and drove in seven runs in this one.
Tennessee returns to Lindsey Nelson Stadium on Thursday for the start of a three-game Southeastern Conference series with Missouri. But first, here’s how it all went down on a Tuesday with Western Carolina.
