Tennessee Basketball wing Cam Carr was one of the college standouts at the Jayson Tatum Elite Camp and could be ready for a breakout sophomore season, according to DraftExpress scout Jon Chepkevich

“Tennessee’s Cameron Carr looked poised for a sophomore leap at the Tatum Elite Camp,” Chepkevich, the director of scouting for DraftExpress.com, wrote on social media. “Looks to be in incredible shape with cut shoulders, long arms, and a wiry strong frame.“

“Responsible for some of the most memorable highlights of the camp, hammering home several emphatic dunks.”

Carr was one of 14 college players on the JT Elite Camp roster. The Tatum camp is invitation only and a collection of the best wings in college and high school basketball across the country.

The other 13 college players at the camp were Isaiah Evans (Duke), AJ Storr (Kansas), Jayden Ross (UConn), John Poulakidas (Yale), Fletcher Loyer (Purdue), Milan Momcliovic (Iowa State), Adou Theiro (Arkansas), Dailyn Swain (Xavier), Payton Sandfort (Iowa), Drake Powell (North Carolina), Jarin Stevenson (Alabama), Kon Knueppel (Duke) and Rylan Griffen (Kansas).

The long and lanky Carr, listed at 6-foot-5, 175-pounds on Tennessee’s official roster, appeared in 14 games as a freshman last season, averaging 1.6 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.5 assist in 4.2 minutes per game. He shot 29.6% from the field and 27.8% from the 3-point line.

He scored a season-high eight points in the home win over Vanderbilt in February and hit the biggest shot of his freshman in the NCAA Tournament, swishing a 3-pointer from the corner in the closing minutes of the first half against Creighton in the Sweet 16.

Carr is one of six returning players on Tennessee’s 2024-25 roster. Zakai Zeigler, Jordan Gainey and Jahmai Mashack return for their senior seasons while Carr, forward Cade Phillips and center JP Estrella are rising sophomores.

The Vols lost three fifth-year seniors in Dalton Knecht, Santiago Vescovi and Josiah-Jordan James. Four other players left through the NCAA Transfer Portal: Junior center Jonas Aidoo, sophomore forward Tobe Awaka and redshirt freshmen Freddie Dilione V and DJ Jefferson.

Rick Barnes sand his staff went to the portal to add North Florida guard Chaz Lanier, Hofstra wing Darlinstone Dubar, Charlotte forward Igor Milicic Jr. and Ohio State center Felix Okpara.

“I can tell you we’re excited about the guys that are coming back,” Barnes said recently during an appearance on ‘Josh & Swain’ on WNML-FM 99.1 in Knoxville. “Cam Carr and Cade Phillips and JP Estrella … so we’re excited. There’s not one guy on our team right now if they can all do what we think they can do, we think we have a chance to really play.”
