Tennessee Basketball hires Scott Daughtry as new director of strategy

Tennessee Basketball graduate assistant Scott Daughtry has been hired by Rick Barnes as the new director of strategy for the Vols, joining the coaching staff in a full-time position.
Tennessee announced the hire on Monday, noting that Daughtry will have “numerous duties related to roster management” and will work closely with director of player personnel and recruiting coordinator Lucas Campbell.
Daughtry joined the Tennessee Basketball program as an undergraduate manager in April 2021. He was promoted to head manager in April 2022 and became a graduate assistant in January 2024.
He worked as a basketball analytics intern for the Indiana Pacers during the summer of 2023, assisting the franchise in analytics with the 2023 NBA Draft, free agency and NBA Summer League. He also worked with the Atlanta Hawks in the summer of 2022.
Daughtry will focus on analytics, statistical models, player success and value
“Our entire staff is excited to welcome Scott into a full-time role,” Barnes said in a press release. “No matter his task over the last four seasons, Scott has attacked it with passion and excelled. There is no doubt he will continue to do just that as he takes on this new job, one that he is well-suited to shine in.
“Scott is a strong example of a young man coming to college and using the chances he was given to find a position doing what he loves upon graduation.”
In his new full-time role at Tennessee, Daughtry will “continue to develop statistical models to predict player success and value, as well as monitor databases, deliver recruiting information to the coaching staff and organize qualitative evaluations,” according to the Vols.
He will also “generate performance analytics, player development analysis and analytical game strategy evaluations for the current team.”

Tennessee has added two new assistant coaches this offseason
Tennessee has hired two new assistant coaches this offseason, in Amorrow Morgan and Steve McClain. Former Tennessee assistant coach Rod Clark left for Indiana in April.
Morgan, 37, was hired away from Florida State after spending the previous two seasons at Cal. He’s a Memphis native who also coached at Loyola-Chicago, South Alabama, Nicholls State, Henderson State, the University of Illinois Springfield and Our Lady of the Lake University.
McClain is a 43-year coaching veteran who spent the last three seasons at Texas under former Longhorns head coach Rodney Terry.
McClain, 62, went 157-115 in his eight seasons as head coach at Wyoming. He also served as head coach at Hutchinson Community College and Illinois-Chicago and worked as an assistant at TCU, Colorado, Indiana and Georgia in a carer that dates back to 1982.
