A Closer Look: Gardner-Webb

Gardner-Webb went 17-16 last season, starting 5-12 through 17 games, then winning 11 of the next 14 to close the regular-season schedule. The Bulldogs lost in overtime to UNC Asheville in the second round of the Big South Tournament.

Gardner-Webb is ranked No. 276 overall in the KenPom ratings, ranked No. 222 in adjusted defensive efficiency and No. 304 in adjusted offensive efficiency.

“They’re gonna play really fast,” Tennessee coach Rick Barnes said last week. They’re well coached, extremely well coached. They got a new coach there, but they’re gonna work hard. They’re gonna really try to score quick. I think (they were) one of the top teams in the country last year.

“They can almost play with a 17-second shot clock. They get down the floor, they’re gonna shoot it quick, they know what they’re doing. They know how they wanna play. They’ll spread you out. Really good cutting team. If you turn your head, you get caught looking, they’re gonna take advantage of it.”
