Grant Williams is headed to the Dallas Mavericks as part of a sign-and-trade deal, according to NBA insider Shams Charania. The gives Williams a four-year, $54 million contract as he makes the move from the Celtics to the Mavs.

It’s a three-team deal sending Williams to Dallas while the Celtics receiver multiple second-round picks and the San Antonio Spurs receive Reggie Bullock and an unprotected Dallas pick in 2030, according to Charania.

Williams made $4.3 million in Boston this season. According to Spotrac estimates, he’ll make $12.5 million in Dallas next season. His salary goes to $13.1 million in 2024-25, $13.8 million in 2025-26 and $14.4 million in 2026-27.

This season Williams played in 79 games, averaging 8.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists, shooting 45.4 percent from the field and 39.5 percent from three. Williams was scheduled to become a restricted free agent this offseason and, according to Spotrac, had earned just under $12 million over the last four years in Boston.

He was picked at No. 22 overall by Boston in the 2019 NBA Draft and in 288 career NBA games has averaged 6.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists while shooting 45.1 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from the 3-point line.

Williams opted to leave Tennessee after his junior season — after twice being named the SEC Player of the Year and a consensus All-American — and the decision paid off.

Seven Vols drafted during the Rick Barnes era at Tennessee

Williams was the first of seven Tennessee players that have been drafted during the Rick Barnes era. Three Vols were selected in 2019, with Admiral Schofield going No. 42 overall to the Washington Wizards. Point guard Jordan Bone was picked at No. 57 overall by the Detroit Pistons.

Keon Johnson and Jaden Springer were both first-round picks after being one-and-done at Tennessee. Johnson went No. 21 overall to the Los Angeles Clippers, but has since been traded to the Portland Trailblazers. Springer was picked at No. 28 overall by the Philadelphia 76ers.

Kennedy Chander was the No. 38 overall pick in last summer NBA Draft, selected by the Memphis Grizzlies early in the second round. Julian Phillips was the No. 35 overall pick in last month’s NBA Draft, taken by the Chicago Bulls in the second round.

There are eight Tennessee players on NBA Summer League rosters this summer, including Johnson (Trailblazers), Springer (76ers), Chandler (Brooklyn Nets) and Phillips (Bulls).

Yves Pons and Uros Plavsic are on the Atlanta Hawks Summer League roster and Jordan Bowden is playing for the Los Angeles Clippers. Kyle Alexander is playing for the Washington Wizards Summer League team.
