Look: Jersey numbers for Tennessee Basketball's eight new players

Tennessee Basketball announced jersey numbers for its eight newcomers on Monday afternoon:

0 — Ja’Kobi Gillespie

Ja’Kobi Gillespie, a Greeneville, Tenn., native, started all 36 games at Maryland last season, averaging 14.7 points and 4.8 assists in 31.6 minutes per game while shooting 45.3% from the floor and 40.7% from the 3-point line, where he made 87 of 214 attempts. 

1 — Amari Evans 

Amari Evans is ranked No. 69 nationally, No. 20 at shooting guard and No. 7 in the state of Georgia, where he played in the Overtime Elite League in Atlanta. He was Tennessee’s second commitment in the class.

4 — Clarence Massamba

Clarence Massamba, the 6-foot-5 guard from France, was the final addition to the class, committing on April 30. He averaged 9.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.3 steals per game during the 2024-25 international season, playing mostly for Espies Monaco, AS Monaco’s U21 team. He shot 44.6% from the field and 34.1% from the 3-point line.  

6 — Dewayne Brown II

Dewayne Brown, a 6-foot-9, 235-pound prospect out of Hoover, Ala., was the first commitment in the class. He’s ranked No. 96 overall. He’s the No. 9 center in the class and the No. 1 prospect in the state of Alabama. Brown will be the first player in program history to wear No. 6.

10 — Nate Ament 

Nate Ament is the biggest name in the class. The consensus five-star small forward is ranked No. 2 overall in the On3 Top 150 for the 2025 class, the highest-ranked recruit to sign with the Vols in the history of the Tennessee Basketball program. Ament is expected to be a one-and-done prospect and likely lottery pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.

23 — Jaylen Carey

Jaylen Carey, the 6-foot-8, 245-pound transfer forward from Vanderbilt, averaged 8.0 points and 5.7 rebounds in 20.2 minutes per game for the Commodores last season. He had 18 points, seven rebounds and three assists before fouling out in Vanderbilt’s loss at Tennessee in February. He had 14 points and 10 boards in the Vandy’s win over the Vols in Nashville in January. Carey started his college basketball career at James Madison before following head coach Mark Byington to Vandy.

24 — Troy Henderson

Troy Henderson is a three-star point guard prospect from Richmond, Va.. He committed to Tennessee in March and is ranked as the No. 34 point guard in the country. Henderson signed with Fordham in November, but was released after the Rams fired head coach Keith Urgo. He announced his commitment to Tennessee on social media on March 25.

77 — Amaree Abram

Transfer guard Amaree Abram averaged 12.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists at Louisiana Tech last season. He shot 42.2% from the field, 37.3% from the 3-point line and averaged 32.1 minutes per game while starting all 32 games. Abram will be the first player in program history to wear jersey No. 77.
