Live Updates: Tennessee basketball's exhibition game against Lenoir-Rhyne
Tennessee basketball has a quick turnaround, starting its home schedule with Tuesday night’s exhibition game against Lenoir-Rhyne, just two days removed from the 89-88 win at Michigan State on Sunday. The Vols and Bears are scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time start on SEC Network+.

Last season Tennessee hosted Lenoir-Rhyne, the alma mater of head coach Rick Barnes, and won 103-62. The Vols beat L-R 86-41 in a regular-season game in November 2018 and also won 77-49 in another exhibition game in November 2014.
Barnes graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne in 1977, after earning the Captain Award with the Bears as a junior and senior. He graduated from Hickory High School in 1973 and received a honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Lenoir-Rhyne in 2005.
Bryan Lentz, Tennessee basketball’s director of player development, is the son of former longtime Lenoir-Rhyne basketball coach John Lentz, Barnes’ former teammate and college roommate.

Tennessee 89, Michigan State 88
Jordan Gainey made the second of two free-throw attempts with 1.9 seconds left to help No. 9 Tennessee start its season with an exhibition win over No. 4 Michigan State Sunday at the Breslin Center in East Lansing.
Gainey, the USC Upstate transfer guard and son of Tennessee associate head coach Justin Gainey, scored 20 points in his debut with the Vols, starting the game a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and 4-for-4 from the 3-point line. Dalton Knecht, the fifth-year senior wing and Northern Colorado transfer, scored a game-high 28 points, going 8-for-16 from the field and 3-for-9 from the 3-point line, while adding seven rebounds and four assists in 34 minutes.
Jahmai Mashcak had 11 points and five rebounds, Jonas Aidoo scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds and Josiah-Jordan James and Tobe Awaka scored eight points each while combining for seven more boards.
Tennessee shot 51.0% from the field (26-51), 52.4% from the 3-point line (11-21), scored 22 points in transition and scored 17 points off 17 Michigan State turnovers.
The Vols started Sunday’s game on a 17-1 run and led by as many as 18 points midway through the first half. Michigan State rallied to cut the deficit to one point on three different occasions in the second half, then tied the game with five seconds left after stealing an inbound and hitting a 3-pointer. Gainey drew a foul on the other end to get to the line and give his team the win.
