Since then, though, Duke has rattled off 10 straight wins, including the rout of Oral Roberts on Thursday and three wins in Greensboro, N.C., last week on the way to the ACC Tournament championship.
Duke is led by 7-foot freshman center Kyle Filipowski, who averages 15.1 points and 9.0 rebounds in 28.9 minutes per game this season. Guard Jeremy Roach averages 13.6 points, 3.1 assists and 2.5 rebounds in a team-high 33.1 minutes per game.
Tennessee is 7-8 all-time against Duke but the two programs have never met in the NCAA Tournament. No. 14 Mercer beat No. 3 Duke in the 2014 tournament, clearing the path for No. 11 Tennessee to go from the First Four to the Sweet Sixteen — beating Iowa, UMass and Mercer before falling to Michigan — and avoiding a potential meeting with Duke in the round of 32.
Barnes has a 4-9 career record against Duke, including a loss to the Blue Devils in the second round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament, 74-69.
