(Denny Simmons / The Tennessean / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images) The Tennessee Volunteers calm down Tennessee Volunteers forward Igor Milicic Jr. (7) after he was called for a foul against the Vanderbilt Commodores during their game at Memorial Gym in Nashville, Tenn., Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025.

Tennessee Basketball stayed at No. 6 in the new Associated Press Top 25 on Monday and dropped one spot to No. 7 in the updated Coaches Poll, following the 76-75 loss at Vanderbilt on Saturday.

The Vols (16-2, 3-2 SEC), who dropped five spots last week after the 73-43 loss at Florida on January 8, are back home to host Mississippi State (15-3, 3-2) on Tuesday (7 p.m. Eastern Time, ESPN2) at Food City Center.

Tennessee goes to No. 1 Auburn (17-1, 5-0) on Saturday (8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN).

Mississippi State is ranked No. 14 in both polls after beating Ole Miss 84-81 in overtime in Starkville on Saturday, bouncing back from back-to-back losses at home against Kentucky and at Auburn.

19 AP Top 25 teams lost last week

Tennessee and Mississippi State weren’t alone in losing games as ranked teams last week.

Tennessee’s NCAA Tournament Resume

Tennessee stayed at No. 4 in the NET despite the loss at Vanderbilt. The Vols have a 5-2 record in Quad 1 games, are 1-0 in Quad 2, 3-0 in Quad 3 and 7-0 in Quad 4.

ESPN’s Joe Lunardi dropped Tennessee one spot on his NCAA Tournament seed list after the loss at Vandy, with the Vols going from the No. 4 overall seed to No. 5.

Alabama’s win at Kentucky on Saturday put the Crimson Tide back on the No. 1-seed line in Lunardi’s projections, with Auburn, Duke and Iowa State as the first three No. 1 seeds.

Lunardi had Tennessee as the No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region, paired with Iowa State as the No. 1 seed, Purdue as the No. 3 and Ole Miss as the No. 4.
