Where Tennessee basketball is ranked in updated AP Top 25, Coaches Poll
Tennessee basketball moved up two spots in the Associated Press Top 25 on Monday and is now ranked No. 7 after the first first week of the regular season. The Vols moved up two spots and are now ranked No. 8 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
Michigan State dropped from No. 4 to No. 18 in the AP poll after losing its season-opening game against James Madison at the Breslin Center. The Vols won 89-88 in East Lansing in a charity exhibition game on October 29.
Duke dropped from No. 2 to No. 9 after losing a home game against Arizona Friday night.
Tennessee (2-0) returns home to host Wofford on Tuesday. The game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time start and can be seen on SEC Network+.
Vols ranked No. 6 in KenPom ratings, with No. 1 defense, No. 20 offense
Tennessee is up to No. 6 overall in the KenPom.com ratings. The Vols are ranked No. 1 in KenPom’s adjusted defensive efficiency — points allowed per 100 possessions — at 87.6. They’re No. 20 in adjust offensive efficiency, at 113.0.
In the 80-70 win at Wisconsin Friday night, Tennessee got a game-high 24 points from Dalton Knecht. Josiah-Jordan James had 14 points and six rebounds and Jordan Gainey and Jonas Aidoo scored 10 points each, with Aidoo grabbing seven rebounds.
The Vols led wire-to-wire in the win at the Kohl Center in Madison and have yet to trail this season.
Knecht, the Northern Colorado transfer wing, and Gainey, the USC Upstate transfer guard, have starred for the Vols early on.

Knecht leads the team in scoring (20.5 points per game) and minutes (29.0). He’s shooting 53.8% from the floor on 26 field-goal attempts and 30.0% from the 3-point line. James is averaging 13.0 points, second-highest on the team, and is a team-best 5-for-8 from the 3-point line.
Gainey is averaging 12.0 points per game while shooting 47.1% from the floor and 50.0% from the 3-point line, at 4-for-8.

Tuesday’s game against Wofford is the final tuneup before the Vols go to Honolulu for the Maui Invitational, where they’ll start play in the first round against Syracuse on Monday, November 20. The game will start at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time and will be televised by ESPN2.
Either No. 3 Purdue or No. 11 Gonzaga will be the opponent the following day. The other half of the eight-team bracket includes No. 1 Kansas playing Chaminade and No. 5 Marquette facing UCLA.
Another road test awaits Tennessee after the Hawaii trip, with a game at North Carolina on November 29 in the first edition of the ACC-SEC Challenge. It’s a 7:15 p.m. ET start on ESPN at the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill.
