Where Tennessee basketball stands in updated rankings, Bracketology and the NET

Tennessee basketball on Monday moved up to No. 5 in both the USA Today Coaches Poll and the Associated Press Top 25, moving up four spots in the Coaches Poll and three spots in the AP Top 25.

The Vols bounced back from the 85-69 loss at Texas A&M last Saturday to win 92-63 at Arkansas on Wednesday before coming home to beat Vanderbilt 88-53 at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Tennessee (19-6, 9-3 SEC) now goes back on the road to face Missouri (8-17, 0-12) on Tuesday, a 7 p.m. Eastern Time start on SEC Network.

The Vols enter the final three weeks of the season a game back of first-place Alabama in the SEC standings and are now a half game ahead of South Carolina and Auburn, after South Carolina lost at home against LSU and Auburn lost at home against Kentucky.  

Tennessee on Sunday was the No. 6 overall seed in Joe Lunardi’s latest ESPN Bracketology update. The Vols were the No. 2 seed in Lunardi’s Midwest Region, paired with No. 1-seed Purdue, No. 3-seed Baylor and No. 16-seed Creighton.

Vols currently a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament

The NCAA Tournament Selection Committee on Saturday afternoon released its current top-16 seeds during the NCAA March Madness Bracket Preview show on CBS. The Vols came in as the No. 6 overall seed and the No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region, paired with Purdue, the No. 1 overall seed. The Boilermakers lost at Ohio State on Sunday.

Joining the Vols and Purdue in the Midwest was No. 3 Baylor, the No. 10 overall seed, and No. 4 San Diego State, the No. 14 overall seed.

Tennessee moved up to No. 6 in the NET on Sunday. The Vols have a 5-5 Quad 1 record, are 5-1 in Quad 2 games and a combined 8-0 in Quad 2 and Quad 3 games.

The win over Vanderbilt was the start of three home dates over Tennessee’s next four games. The Vols go to Missouri on Tuesday and then return home to host Texas A&M on Saturday and Auburn on February 28.

The tests continue in March with back-to-back road games at Alabama (March 2) and South Carolina (March 6) before closing the regular season at home against Kentucky on Senior Day in Knoxville (March 9).

The SEC Tournament is set for March 13-17 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville and the NCAA Tournament bracket will be revealed on Sunday, March 17.
