Where Tennessee basketball is ranked in updated polls, NET and ESPN Bracketology

Tennessee basketball dropped to No. 7 in the Associated Press Top 25 and to No. 9 in the USA Today Coaches Poll on Monday afternoon, dropping two spots in the AP Poll and three in the Coaches Poll after the 85-69 loss at Texas A&M Saturday night.

The Vols (17-6, 7-3 SEC) are back on the road at Arkansas (12-11, 3-7) on Wednesday for a 9 p.m. Eastern Time start (TV: ESPN2) at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville.

Tennessee on Sunday was ranked No. 6 in the NET, dropping one spot after the loss at Teas A&M. The Vols are 4-5 in Quad 1 games, 5-1 in Quad 2 games and 4-0 in both Quad 3 and Quad 4 games. 

KenPom.com has Tennessee at No. 7 overall. The Vols are ranked No. 7 in KenPom’s adjusted defensive efficiency, giving up 93.0 points per 100 possessions, and No. 14 in adjusted offensive efficiency, at 118.5 points scored per 100 possessions.

On Saturday afternoon the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee will offer a bracket preview, revealing the current top 16 seeds for the 68-team tournament field.

Where the Vols are seeded in updated ESPN Bracketology

Tennessee on Saturday night dropped back down to the No. 6 overall seed in the latest NCAA Tournament projection from ESPN’s Joe Lunardi. Last week the Vols briefly jumped up to the No. 1-seed line in Lunardi’s projection after the 88-68 win over LSU Wednesday at Thompson-Boling Arena, jumping over Arizona and North Carolina from the No. 2-seed line.

Tennessee has never been a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, but has been a No. 5 seed or higher in all five NCAA Tournament appearances under Rick Barnes. The Vols were a No. 4 seed a year ago, a No. 3 seed in 2022 and a No. 5 seed in 2021. They were a No. 2 seed in 2019 and a No. 3 in 2018.

The Vols were back down to a No. 2 seed on Friday morning, after Arizona’s triple-overtime win at Utah put the Wildcats back as the fourth and final No. 1 seed.

Lunardi on Saturday night had Purdue as the No. 1 overall seed, ahead of UConn, Houston and Arizona on the top-seed line. North Carolina was the No. 5 overall seed and the first No. 2 seed, ahead of Tennessee, Marquette and Kansas.

After the trip to Arkansas Wednesday, Tennessee closes the February schedule with three of four games at home, hosting Vanderbilt on Saturday, going to Missouri (February 20) and then home dates with Texas A&M (February 24) and Auburn (February 28).

The March schedule is loaded with road games at Alabama (March 2) and South Carolina (March 6) before closing the regular season at home against Kentucky on Senior Day in Knoxville (March 9).

The SEC Tournament is set for March 13-17 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville and the NCAA Tournament bracket will be revealed on Sunday, March 17.
