Report: Tennessee in final five for 5-Star SF Nate Ament with commitment date set

Nate Ament, the Five Star-Plus+ small forward and the top remaining uncommitted basketball recruit in the 2025 class, has Tennessee among his final five schools and has reportedly set a date to announce his commitment.
Ament will announce on April 1 at the McDonald’s All-American Game at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, according to On3’s Joe Tipton, who noted that the commitment date is subject to change.
Ament’s final five schools, according to Swish Cultures, is Arkansas, Duke, Kentucky, Louisville and Tennessee. Tipton’s full update on Ament’s recruitment can be found here.
The 6-foot-9, 185-pound Ament is ranked No. 4 nationally, No. 2 among small forwards and No. 1 in the state of Virginia, out of Highland High School in Manassas.
Nate Ament took two visits to Tennessee
Ament took an official visit to Tennessee on October 18 and an unofficial visit in January. He also visited Notre Dame, Texas, Louisville and Duke.
He cut his list of schools down to 11 schools on January 15: Alabama, Arkansas, BYU, Duke, Georgetown, Kansas State, Kentucky, Louisville, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Texas.
“They have Chaz Lanier this year and then Dalton Knecht last year,” Ament told On3’s Jamie Shaw in January. “So they like to have a shooter come in, and I’d like to consider myself a shooter. So being able to come in and be that guy because, Chaz is leaving next year, so that’s great.
“But I love their head coach (Rick Barnes) and their assistant coaches. I love everything about Tennessee, they’re great people, always nice to me. And they’re always coming to check out my games.”
Tennessee currently has two signees in 2025 class
Tennessee currently has two signings in the 2025 class, with four-star shooting guard Amari Evans and four-star center Dewayne Brown signing during the early period in November.

The 6-foot-5, 204-pound Evans is ranked No. 83 overall in the On3 Industry Ranking. He’s the No. 21 shooting guard in the class and the No. 11 overall player in the state of Pennsylvania.
Brown is a 6-foot-9, 235-pound center out of Hoover High School in Hoover, Ala. He’s ranked No. 102 overall, No. 10 at center and No. 1 in the state of Alabama.
Ament is the top available player in the 2025 class and is planning to make a decision “around February or March.”
“I got my two upcoming visits set,” Ament said, “and I might squeeze in one or two more visits, but I’m probably just going to wait until February or March just to see how everything plays out.”
Ament said two factors he’s looking for in a school are “player development and the family aspect of the team.”
“I want to know that (at) the school I choose, I’m going to be taken care of,” Ament said, “and I know that will happen at the school I have the best relationship with. Who is going to put me in the best positions to challenge myself and get better? Who is going to let me play through mistakes? For me, it’s just go where I’m needed.”
