Kansas transfer wing Rakease Passmore is “in talks” with Tennessee about a possible visit, according to On3’s Jamie Shaw. Passmore, according to the report, has visits set at Virginia on Friday and at Miami on Tuesday.

Shaw reported that Tennessee and Ole Miss have discussed visit dates with Passmore while “Auburn and Oklahoma have also recently gotten involved, trying to schedule a time to move forward with a Zoom meeting.

“Things are starting to move with Passmore,” Shaw added, “and portal recruiting can happen quickly, so start paying attention to the visits.”

The 6-foot-5, 185-pound Passmore appeared in 23 games at Kansas this season, averaging 0.7 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. He shot 28.6% from the field and 22.2% from the 3-point line. He scored a season-high five points against Oakland in November and had three rebounds against UNC Wilmington.

Tennessee has signed two players out of the NCAA Transfer Portal so far

Passmore was a four-star prospect in the On3 Industry Rankings. He was ranked as the No. 42 overall in the 2024 class, was the No. 14 small forward and the No. 4 overall player in the state of North Carolina.

Tennessee currently has made two additions out of the NCAA Transfer Portal, signing Maryland point guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie and Vanderbilt forward Jaylen Carey.

The Vols this weekend are scheduled to host Maryland shooting guard Rodney Rice on a visit alongside Gillespie, his former teammate with the Terps. Rice is currently visiting Villanova before his Tennessee visit starts on Saturday.

The 6-foot-4, 198-pound Rice averaged 13.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 36 games this season, shooting 43.4% from the field and 37.4% from the 3-point line. He started 32 times in 36 games, averaging 31.1 minutes per game. He made 80 3-pointers on the season, going 80-for-214.

Gillespie started all 36 games at Maryland this season, averaging 14.7 points and 4.8 assists in 31.6 minutes per game while shooting 45.3% from the floor and 40.7% from the 3-point line, where he made 87 of 214 attempts.

Rick Barnes: Ja’Kobi Gillespie is ‘a dynamic point guard who can really shot the ball from deep’

Gillespie committed last Friday and signed on Monday.

“A dynamic point who can really shoot the ball from deep and get his teammates involved, Ja’Kobi is a fearless competitor with a high basketball IQ,” Tennessee coach Rick Barnes said. “We expect him to help lead our team from day one and we feel quite fortunate to have him as a part of our program.”

The Vols on Sunday night got a commitment from Carey, who signed with the Vols on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-8, 245-pound big man averaged 8.0 points and 5.7 rebounds in 20.2 minutes per game in his one season at Vandy, after starting his college career at James Madison.

“Jaylen is a physical power forward with versatility,” Barnes said, “who can play with his back to the basket or face up. He is a proven SEC competitor with excellent hands, superb offensive instincts, quality passing ability and a strong feel for the game.

“Jaylen’s style will complement the post players we already have and we cannot wait to get to work with him.”
