Tennessee Basketball: What's left for teams at the top of the SEC standings
Tennessee basketball this week was given the third best odds to win the Southeastern Conference’s regular-season championship, listed at 3/1 by BetOnline. The Vols came in behind Alabama at 10/11 and Auburn at 5/2 in the updated odds and ahead of South Carolina at 8/1.
The Vols are +300, Auburn is +250 and Alabama is -110. South Carolina is +800. Florida and Kentucky both have 50/1 odds.
First-place Alabama has a half-game lead on South Carolina and Auburn and is one game up on Tennessee. The Vols are one game head of Florida and Kentucky, two games up on Texas A&M and three games ahead of Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
Here’s a closer look at the battle at the top of the standings:
Alabama (17-7, 9-2 SEC)
Alabama is first in the standings, a half game ahead of both South Carolina and Auburn and one game ahead of Tennessee. The average KenPom.com ratings for Alabama’s seven remaining opponents is 45.9 (51.0 at home and 39.0 on the road).
The Crimson Tide did not have a midweek game this week. They host Texas A&M on Saturday and Florida on Wednesday, then go to Kentucky on February 24 and play at Ole Miss on February 28.
Tennessee goes to Tuscaloosa on March 2, then Alabama closes with a road game at Florida on March 5 and a home date with Arkansas on March 9.
Alabama lost 91-71 at Tennessee on January 20, split its home-and-home with Auburn, winning at home on January 24 and losing on the road last week, and beat South Carolina 74-47 on January 9.
South Carolina (21-4, 9-3 SEC)
South Carolina’s seven-game win streak was snapped in the 101-61 loss at Auburn Wednesday night. The Gamecocks are a half game back of Alabama, tied for second with Auburn and a half game ahead of Tennessee.
The Gamecocks won at Tennessee on January 30 and lost head-to-head against Alabama and Auburn.
South Carolina has six games left, with three at home and three on the road. Next is a home date with LSU on Saturday, then a trip to Ole Miss on February 24, with no midweek game next week. The Gamecocks go to Texas A&M on February 28, host Florida on March 2 and Tennessee on march 6 and close at Mississippi State on March 9.
The average KenPom rating for South Carolina’s six remaining opponents is 42.0. The average is 44.3 on the road and 39.6 at home.

Auburn (20-5, 9-3 SEC)
Auburn has six games left, starting with Kentucky on Saturday. The Tigers don’t have a midweek game next week and go to Georgia on February 24. Tennessee hosts Auburn on February 28.
Auburn is home against Mississippi State on March 2, then closes with a road game at Missouri on March 5 and a home game against Georgia on March 9.
The average KenPom rating for Auburn’s six remaining opponents is 63.5. It’s 48.0 at home and 79.0 on the road.
Tennessee (18-6, 8-3 SEC)
Tennessee has seven games left, with four at home and three on the road. The Vols have three of their next four at home, starting with Vanderbilt on Saturday. They go to Missouri on Tuesday before home games against Texas A&M on February 24 and Auburn on February 28.
Then it’s road games at Alabama and South Carolina and a home game against Kentucky on Senior Day at Thompson-Boling Arena on March 9.
