Live Updates: Tennessee vs. Ole Miss in the SEC Tournament
The regular season is done. March is officially here. No. 17 Tennessee, as the No. 5 seed in the SEC Tournament, opens up its postseason Thursday against No. 13 Ole Miss at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time (TV: SEC Network) at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Ole Miss beat South Carolina 67-61 Wednesday night in the tournament’s opening game.

The Vols (22-9), who won at Ole Miss (12-20) on December 28, are coming off a 79-70 loss at Auburn on Saturday, the end of a five-week struggle to end the regular season, going 4-6 over the final 10 games on schedule. Tennessee is still adjusting to life without starting point guard Zakai Zeigler, who tore his ACL in the 75-57 win over Arkansas last week at Thompson-Boling Arena.
The winner of Thursday afternoon’s game advances to face Missouri, the No. 4 seed, at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time Friday on ESPN.

A closer look at Ole Miss
Tennessee opened SEC play on the road at Ole Miss on December 28, leaving Oxford with a 63-59 win. The Vols trailed by six at halftime, but rallied thanks to 22 points from Santiago Vescovi, who finished 8-for-14 from the field and 3-for-7 from the 3-point line, and 13 points from Zeigler. Jonas Aidoo and Olivier Nkamhoua scored eight each.

Ole Miss went 3-17 over its last 20 regular-season games, after starting the season with eight wins over the first 11 games. Since December 20, the only wins came at South Carolina on January 17, at Georgia on February 7 and at home against LSU on February 25.
The Rebels fired head coach Kermit Davis on February 24, after he went 74-79, with a 32-55 record in SEC play, in five seasons at Ole Miss. Win Case was named interim head coach after the firing of Davis.
Tennessee in the SEC Tournament under Rick Barnes
Tennessee has played in three SEC Tournament championship games under Rick Barnes, losing against Kentucky in St. Louis in 2018 and Auburn in Nashville in 2019. Last Mach in the championship game at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Tennessee beat Texas A&M to win the conference tournament for the first time since 1979.
The Vols lost in the semifinal round against Alabama in 2021, after beating Florida in the quarterfinal round, and lost to Georgia in their first game at the tournament in 2017. Tennessee was a No. 12 seed in 2016, the first season under Barnes, and beat No. 13 Auburn (97-59) and No. 5 Vanderbilt (67-65) before losing to No. 4 LSU, 84-75.
