How To Watch: Tennessee Basketball vs. South Carolina on Senior Day

No. 4 Tennessee closes the regular-season schedule against South Carolina on Saturday at Food City Center, scheduled for a 2 p.m. Eastern Time start on SEC Network. The Vols will honor their senior class — Zakai Zeigler, Jahmai Mashack, Jordan Gainey, Chaz Lanier, Igor Milicic Jr., Darlinstone Dubar and Grant Hurst —  in a postgame ceremony.

The Vols (24-6, 11-6 SEC) are looking to bounce back from the 79-76 loss at Ole Miss on Wednesday. They need a win to clinch a top-four finish in the SEC standings and receive a double-bye in next week’s SEC Tournament at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

South Carolina (12-18, 2-15) lost 13 straight games to start SEC play but is 2-2 over its last four, including a 15-point win over Texas and a 19-point win over Arkansas.

Series History: Tennessee vs. South Carolina 

Tennessee leads the all-time series with South Carolina 53-29, dating back to 1927. The Vols won 66-59 in Columbia last March to clinch the SEC regular-season championship, five weeks removed from South Carolina upsetting Tennessee 63-59 in Knoxville.

South Carolina’s road win last season snapped a streak of five straight losses to the Vols. Tennessee has won 11 of the last 13 meetings, dating back to January 2018. 

Tennessee won 15 straight against South Carolina between January 2008 and January 2015. Six games is the longest losing streak, from March 1995 to January 1998. The Vols are 31-10 at home against the Gamecocks.

A Closer Look: South Carolina

South Carolina started the season 3-3, won seven straight games to get to 10-3, then lost 13 straight to start SEC play. The Gamecocks finally got on the board in league play with an 84-69 win over Texas on February 22. They beat Arkansas 72-53 at home last Saturday, after a 101-71 loss at Missouri on February 25. Georgia won 73-64 at South Carolina on Tuesday.

The Gamecocks are No. 88 in the NET with a 1-14 record in Quad 1 games and are No. 71 overall in the KenPom.com ratings, ranked No. 49 in adjusted defensive efficiency and No. 113 in adjusted offensive efficiency. 

Collin Murray-Boyles does it all for South Carolina, leading the Gamecocks in scoring (17.0 points per game), rebounding (8.3), steals (1.5) and blocks (1.4). Jamarii Thomas averages 12.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and a team-high 3.0 assists.
