No. 5 Tennessee returns home to host South Carolina on Tuesday night at Thompson-Boling Arena, a 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time start on SEC Network.

The Vols (15-4, 5-1 SEC), who stayed at No. 5 in both the Associated Press Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Poll on Monday, are coming off a 75-62 win at Vanderbilt on Saturday night.

The Gamecocks (17-3, 5-2) have won three straight, beating Missouri at home on Saturday after previously winning at Arkansas (77-64) and clobbering Kentucky (79-62) at home.

A Closer Look: South Carolina

South Carolina, which won just 11 games under Lamont Paris last season, his first on the job, started 13-1 this season before losing two of three, dropping games at Alabama (74-47) on January 9 and at home against Georgia (74-69) on January 16.

Paris, who is now 28-24 (9-16 SEC) as South Carolina’s head coach, spent five seasons at Chattanooga, going 87-72. He led the Mocs to 27 wins and an NCAA Tournament in 2021-22 before being hired away by the Gamecocks to replace Frank Martin. 

Tennessee has won five straight against South Carolina, including three straight at home. The Gamecocks last beat the Vols 63-61 in Columbia in February 2020. Last season Tennessee won 85-42 in Knoxville in January and 85-45 at South Carolina in February.

South Carolina last season finished No. 221 overall in the KenPom ratings, ranked No. 226 in adjusted defensive efficiency, giving up 107.3 points per 100 possessions, and ranked No. 205 in adjusted offensive efficiency (103.5). This season the Gamecocks are at No. 54 overall in KenPom, ranked No. 57 on defense (99.7) and No. 59 on offense (113.5).
