How it Happened: Blake Burke stays hot, Vols handle Charleston Southern 8-2

Tennessee continued its winning ways on Wednesday, taking care of Charleston Southern 8-2 for its eighth-straight victory after starting the season with back-to-back losses.

Blake Burke once again stole the show with another home run and four runs driven in while three Vols in total registered multi-hit days. Tennessee finished the outing scoring eight runs off 13 hits. Jake Fitzgibbons was credited with the win on the mound after throwing two scoreless frames, relieving AJ Russell who started the ballgame.

How did it all happen? Find out below. Tennessee returns to Lindsey Nelson Stadium on Friday for the third of a three-game series with Gonzaga. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 pm ET.   

Scoring Summary

Bottom 1st: Jared Dickey led off with a single up the middle. Christian Moore doubles down the left field line. Blake Burke singled in both on a base-hit to right field. Zane Denton doubled off the right field wall. Griffin Merritt drove in Burke on a sacrifice fly to the wall in right field. Maui Ahuna and Hunter Ensley strike out consecutively to end the frame.

3 R, 4 H, 0 E, 1 LOB – Score: Tennessee 3-0

Bottom 2nd: Christian Moore grounded out to third, brought in Cal Stark in the process. Zane Denton, with runners at the corners and two gone, singled through the right side to score Dickey from third base. Griffin Merritt flied out to end the inning.
