Christian Moore homers his way to SEC Player of the Week honors
Following a record-breaking weekend, Tennessee second baseman Christian Moore has been named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season.
The junior also earned the honor two weeks ago on April 8. He is the fourth Volunteer player this year to reel in weekly honors from the league and his designation this week makes it five for the Tennessee program this season.
Moore’s three home runs on Sunday in game three against Kentucky highlighted the series win for the Vols over the Wildcats at Proud Park. He tied teammate Blake Burke twice over the weekend for the program lead in career home runs before blowing past him in the finale for a two-homer lead in the race. Moore currently sits atop the UT leader board with 46 career round trippers while Burke is two back at 44.
“It’s pretty cool. I think Burke’s going to catch me, and we’re going to go back-and-forth the whole season,” the slugger said after Sunday’s game. “But for right now, I’m the champion, and I’ll try to ride with it as long as I can.”
The second baseman is now within striking distance of the Tennessee single season record for home runs, set by Sonny Cortez (24) back in 1998. On the weekend, Moore homered four times, drove in nine runs and scored five runs while going 9-for-15 at the plate with two four-hit days.

“Trying to stay humble and even-keeled,” Moore said when asked what’s been working well for hm lately. “Staying with my work that I do every day and try not to change as much, and just try to see good pitches up there. On defense, do the same thing. Keep the ball in front and make plays.”
Tennessee baseball returns to action on Tuesday by hosting Western Kentucky at 6 o’clock eastern time. The Vols then gear up for SEC play this weekend at home with Missouri.
