ESPN projection: Tennessee is last team to earn first-round home game
ESPN’s first four out were SMU, Texas A&M, LSU and Ole Miss. The next four out were Iowa State, Colorado, Clemson and Washington State.
Tennessee (7-1, 4-1 SEC), ranked No. 6 in the Coaches Poll and No. 7 in the Associated Press Top 25 on Sunday, host Mississippi State (2-7, 0-5) on Saturday night (7 p.m. Eastern Time, ESPN) at Neyland Stadium.
The Vols go to No. 2 Georgia next week, in a 7:30 p.m. ET start on ABC at Sanford Stadium in Athens.
“At No. 8,” Dinich wrote, “Tennessee is the last team to earn a first-round home game, which is awarded to teams seeded Nos. 5-8. If Boise State were to win this theoretical matchup, the Broncos would face Oregon for the second time this season. The committee doesn’t reseed to avoid potential rematches in the bracket. The No. 9 vs. No. 8 winner will always advance to play the No. 1 seed.”
