How it Happened: 11-run third propels Vols to 16-0 beatdown of ETSU
Tennessee absolutely hammered in-state foe ETSU on Wednesday night, taking advantage of an 11-run third inning to shutout the Bucs 16-0 in a run-rule, seven-inning fashion Wednesday night.
The Vols (4-1) scored their first run of the ballgame with Kavares Tears on a wild pitch in the second before 10 runs funneled in with two outs in the third to put the ballgame out of reach. During the massive offensive inning, Dean Curley launched his first career home run (a three-run shot) while Christian Moore and Billy Amick both hit two-run home runs.
Dylan Loy (1-0) picks up the win after tossing a scoreless fourth inning with two strikeouts. Derek McCarley (0-1) takes home the loss after allowing eight runs (seven earned) off six hits over 2.2 innings pitched. The Vols finish the ballgame scoring the 16 runs off 13 hits while the Bucs were held to scoreless with just one knock.
Tennessee returns to Lindsey Nelson Stadium on Friday to begin the first home weekend series of the season as the Vols are set to play host to Albany.
