Tennessee coach Josh Heupel updated the timeline of return for both Mays and Pili Wednesday night on The Vol Network’s ‘Vol Calls.’

“Cooper, he’s been with us on the (practice) field” Heupel said. “We will not play him in this one (against Austin Peay). That’s just in preparation for the following week, make sure that he’s 100 percent.”

Tennessee opens SEC play next week, facing Florida at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, a 7 p.m. ET start on ESPN.

Heupel said the Vols will reevaluate Pili’s injury in “a couple weeks.”

we’ll kind of figure out what the timeline is for him,” Heupel said. “Hopefully we’re able to get him back here in the middle part of the season. But (he’s) someone that you just hate it for (him).”
