Wide receiver Bru McCoy sent a message to Tennessee fans on social media on Sunday, after the Vols announced that he had undergone surgery on the fracture-dislocation he suffered in the 41-20 win over South Carolina Saturday night.

“I want to thank every single individual who has taken the time to check in on me,” McCoy wrote on Instagram, “share words of encouragement, or simply show their support.

“It means the world to me. I’ll be back, stronger, healthier, and more hungry than ever. Till then, Go Damn Vols.”

McCoy was suffered the gruesome injury in the second quarter against the Gamecocks at Neyland Stadium. He had surgery overnight in Knoxville to repair the fracture and dislocation of his right ankle. He has a COVID year available, should he choose to use it.

Bru McCoy underwent successful surgery this morning,” the Vols announced on social media, “after suffering a fracture-dislocation of his right ankle on Saturday night. Bru and his family appreciate all of your prayers and support since last night and in the days ahead.

“Bru has displayed unwavering toughness, character and leadership as a Vol on and off the field, and he now begins the road to recovery determined to make this just a minor setback on his football journey.”

McCoy was carted off the field after suffering a gruesome lower-leg injury with 6:16 left in the first half, while Tennessee was leading 17-10. Milton completed a pass to McCoy for 18 yards before he went down.

Trainers immediately brought the cart onto the field for the injury to McCoy’s right leg, as McCoy covered his face with his hands. He left Neyland Stadium in an ambulance after being carted off the field.

“Hate what happened to Bru,” Tennessee coach Josh Heupel said after the game. “We’ll have a more of an update tomorrow or on Monday I’m sure, but everybody saw it. (It) was (a) lower body injury that didn’t look good. So I hate it for him.”
