Where Tennessee football is ranked in updated College Football Playoff Top 25

Tennessee football on Tuesday night dropped three spots in the updated College Football Playoff Top 25 and is now ranked No. 21. The Vols debuted at No. 17 in the playoff ranking on October 31, moved up to No. 14 after the win over UConn and dropped to No. 18 after the loss at Missouri.

After the 38-10 loss to No. 1 Georgia on Saturday, the Vols dropped four spots in both the USA Today Coaches Poll and The Associated Press Top 25 on Sunday after the 38-10 loss to No. 1 Georgia. The Vols are now ranked No. 23 in the Coaches Poll and No. 25 in the AP Top 25.

The Vols (7-3, 3-4) host Vanderbilt (2-9, 0-7) on Saturday (3:30 p.m. Eastern Time, SEC Network) on Senior Day at Neyland Stadium in the regular-season finale.

Tennessee on Saturday got a 75-yard touchdown run from Jaylen Wright on the first play of the game, but Georgia responded with 24 unanswered points, building a 31-10 lead with nine minutes left in the third quarter.

Joe Milton completed 17 of 30 passes for 147 yards in the loss. The Vols rushed 25 times as a team for 130 yards and the touchdown. Wright finished with nine carries for 90 yards. Squirrel White caught five passes for 45 yards and Chas Nimrod had four catches for 44 yards.

Georgia scored four touchdowns over a span of five possessions on its way to the 28-point win. The Bulldogs, who won their 28th straight game and ended Tennessee’s 14-game home win streak, converted 9 of 13 third downs.

The Vols in the polls this season

Tennessee dropped seven spots in both polls last week — from No. 14 to No. 21 in the AP Top 25 and from No. 12 to No. 19 in the Coaches Poll — after the 36-7 loss at Missouri

The Vols had climbed to No. 12 in the Coaches Poll and No. 14 in the AP poll after back-to-back wins over Kentucky and UConn. They had dropped No. 19 in the Coaches Poll and No. 21 in the AP Top 25 after the 34-20 loss at Alabama.

Tennessee started the season ranked No. 12 in the AP Preseason Top 25. The Vols moved up three spots to No. 9 overall in Week 2, after the 49-13 win over Virginia in Nashville, then dropped 12 spots in the AP poll after the 29-16 loss at Florida.

The Coaches Poll had Tennessee at No. 10 in its preseason top 25 released on August 7. The Vols were ranked as high as No. 9 in the Coaches Poll before dropping 10 spots to No. 20 after the loss at Florida.
